Sri Lanka bans imports of goods made with forced labour

12 Jul 2026 | BY Staff Writer

Govt. has prohibited the import of goods produced wholly or partly using forced labour, with the new regulation taking effect from 10 July.

Issued by President Anura Kumara Dissanayake in his capacity as Finance Minister, the order also requires importers to provide documents confirming their goods were not made using forced labour.

The government said the list of affected goods or countries will be determined periodically, taking into account International Labour Organization (ILO) decisions.
