The North-West, North Central, East and Northern Province preliminary matches of the first Youth Wushu Championship tournament conducted by the Sri Lanka Wushu Federation will begin today (7) at Polonnaruwa Gallella Indoor Stadium.

This tournament will be run tomorrow (8) and the day after (9). Previously, the Central, Southern, Uva, Western and Sabaragamuwa provincial tournaments were held with participation of more than a thousand athletes. In the Sanda (dueling) event, the under 14, under 16 and under 20 competitions will be held along with Thaolu under 12, under 16 and under 20 competitions. 

The finals of this tournament will be held in Colombo and the National Youth Training Squad will be selected from the athletes who will win the events. The selected athletes will go to the Asian Junior Wushu Tournament in China-Macau this coming August and the 2026 Olympics in Dakar, Senegal.
