Dilith urges Govt. to reconsider A/L exam schedule

12 Jun 2026 | BY Staff Writer

Leader of the Sarvajana Balaya alliance and MP Dilith Jayaweera has called on the Government to reconsider the scheduled timing of the 2026 G.C.E. Advanced Level Examination, claiming that students would lose six months of preparation time under the current plan.

In a statement on X, Dilith Jayaweera stated that he was “deeply shocked” by what he described as the Government’s lack of sensitivity towards students sitting the Advanced Level Examination this year.

He noted that Advanced Level students would ordinarily have around 26 months to complete the prescribed syllabus and prepare for the examination, but alleged that the decision to hold the examination in August would effectively reduce that period by six months.

The parliamentarian also pointed out that students had faced significant disruptions to their education due to Cyclone Ditwah, arguing that these circumstances should be taken into consideration.
