Cabinet Spokesperson, Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa yesterday (24) said that Sri Lanka is looking at the possibility of obtaining fuel from Russia through a Government to Government agreement.

Responding to questions during the Cabinet of Ministers media briefing, Dr. Jayatissa said that with discussions still ongoing, the Russian Deputy Minister for Energy is expected in the island, which could help formalise and advance these discussions further.  He said that talks are underway at a diplomatic level with Russia on the possibility of obtaining fuel.

He noted that during the recent past, Sri Lanka had not been in a position to procure fuel from Russia. However, efforts are now being made to explore whether a Government-to-Government agreement could be reached to obtain Russian fuel for Sri Lanka, he said.
