The government has approved a new mechanism to strengthen coordination of healthcare services at district level across Sri Lanka.

Under the Cabinet-approved proposal presented by Health Minister Nalinda Jayatissa, Members of Parliament will be appointed as District Health Coordination Officers for all districts.

The Health Ministry noted the initiative aims to improve coordination between central government and provincial health institutions, while addressing gaps in resource allocation and service delivery.

The appointed coordinators will identify district-level health needs, support project implementation and monitor ongoing healthcare development projects.
