Minister of Justice Harshana Nanayakkara stated that the unrest at Magazine Prison in Borella has been brought completely under control.

He noted that around 10 inmates suspected of instigating the incident will be transferred to other prisons.

According to reports, the unrest began after prison officers seized a parcel thrown over the prison wall, prompting more than 40 inmates to leave their cells after breaking cell block locks.

Prison officers, Police and the Special Task Force (STF) restored order, while tri-forces personnel and Sri Lanka Air Force drones were deployed to strengthen security.
