Locomotive drivers will strictly adhere to speed limits, potentially causing train delays, the Locomotive Operating Engineers’ Union announced.
Union President Jeeva Gunawardena stated the decision follows the suspension of the ‘Sagarika’ Express crew after a recent derailment at Wadduwa.
He noted the move is not a trade union action but stressed that technical defects in trains and poor track conditions remain major concerns.
The union warned that delays may occur as drivers will no longer take risks to maintain schedules.
