Sri Lanka’s worker remittances soar, tourism revenue dips in January 2026

Sri Lanka received $751.1 million in workers’ remittances in January 2026, marking a significant increase of $178.1 million compared to $573.0 million in the same month last year, the Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL) reported.


Tourism revenue declined slightly, earning $378.3 million in January 2026, down 5.6% from $400.7 million in January 2025.
