A group of veteran sports personalities headed by fitness fanatic Talavou Alailima, recently launched a 10-year programme targeting the 2036 Olympics and thereby grooming local sportsmen and women to achieve excellence at the event.
The grooming process has been aptly named ‘Lion Warriors.’ This particular concept has been modelled on the lines of similar long-term initiatives that are initiated by other countries with the aim of offering training facilities and providing nutrition to players etc.
According to those involved in the concept they have opted to launch this project in order to overcome the old-fashioned system of gearing local sportsmen and women by authorities barely two years out from the Olympic games which does not serve the intended purpose.
The aim of those behind the ‘Lion Warriors’ concept is to enable Sri Lanka to claim at least 10 medals at the 2036 Olympics and thereby provide a shot in the arm for all Olympic sports in the country.
The brainchild behind this innovative concept is ex-Sri Lanka shot put and discus champion, rugby star and fitness guru Talavou Alailima, with him being backed by a group of seasoned former sports personalities.
As part of this novel project thus far 40 talented sportsmen and women are being trained with the 2036 Olympics in mind and they will be provided with the necessary training facilities and nutrition for the next 10-year period.
Alailima, a former Thomian, is also an entrepreneur and a sports nutrition and strength training consultant with over 15 years of experience in pioneering the sports and fitness industry here.
He is currently the founder, Chairperson and Managing Director of Power World Private Limited.
