Vishenka stars in Petes’ try fest

16 Jun 2024

  • Title-holders send out ominous warning

Left wing Vishenka Silva grabbed five tries as he headlined a try fest for St. Peter’s, as they cruised to a record-breaking 112-0 win over Thurstan in their Schools Rugby League match in Bambalapitiya yesterday (15).

The defending champions overall dumped 19 tries in a display of slick handling and incisive running by their outside backs, in particular with Silva, to the fore.

Thurstan, making their bow in Segment A of the Schools Rugby League after a lapse of 12 years, felt the full force of the might of the ‘Bamba Brigade,’ as they succumbed without a fight.

The final score was also the first time that the reigning schools champions have reeled off a century of points since amassing a three-figure total against C.W.W. Kannangara back in 2014.

Besides Silva, scrum half Salith Gallage and substitutes Senuth Dimsara and Praneeth Silva also grabbed a brace each while Head Coach Sanath Martis emptied his bench for the Petes to have a field day in the second stanza.

The title-holders converted five of their tries in the first half and another six after the turnaround, having led 55-0 at the break and they thus sounded an ominous warning to the rest of their rivals that they intend to fight to the death to retain the League Trophy.
