As Sri Lanka witnessed its largest all-female cycling celebration on 8 March, Maya Hive stood behind the digital heartbeat of ‘Ride Colombo 2025,’ an initiative that turned wheels into waves of empowerment.
As the digital partner joining hands with Feel Lanka and Across Ceylon, Maya Hive recognised the potential of this event long before the routes were mapped out or the riders registered.
The event represented an opportunity for Sri Lanka to demonstrate its strength, unity, and spirit of progress to the world, and as a team committed to social impact, the company felt compelled to be part of something greater.
Feel Lanka Founder Madhura Dharmarathne, the visionary behind the event, said: “Maya Hive played a key role in bringing this idea to life. Its team helped us transform a vision into something tangible, impactful, and real.”
Maya Hive Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Marlon Iddamalgoda added: “We believed in the purpose and impact ‘Ride Colombo’ set out to make. Supporting this initiative felt natural to us as an agency driven by purpose and national pride.
“The energy on the day of the event was out of this world. You could feel it from the moment you stepped onto Galle Face Green. The women who came were celebrating every second of it. As an agency, it was a proud moment to see that we played a part in making it a reality.”
Creating the digital ecosystem
From the ground up, Maya Hive led the full digital experience of the event. The company built the official ‘Ride Colombo’ website, managed the social media strategy, executed digital advertising, and produced all event content, from high-energy videos to emotionally resonant storytelling.
These digital efforts reached far and wide with over 3.3 million impressions across platforms, proof that the message resonated with people both locally and globally. People saw themselves in this movement as riders, daughters, mothers, fathers, and global citizens alike.
Reflecting on this success, Maya Hive Project Manager for ‘Ride Colombo’ Randive Siriwardana shared: “I still remember the moment I walked onto Galle Face that morning; I couldn’t believe how beautifully it had all come to life. That’s when I understood why the content had resonated so deeply with our audience. The stories, the visuals, the energy – it all connected. I’m incredibly proud to have played a role in making this landmark celebration a reality.”
A milestone for SL
‘Ride Colombo 2025’ was a milestone for Sri Lanka, redefining how creativity and strategy could be used to bring purpose to life on a massive scale.
Maya Hive Managing Director Ian Iddamalgoda said: “I see ‘Ride Colombo’ as a turning point for Sri Lanka. It showcased how capable we are as a country to host large-scale, impactful events.
“At a time when tourism is on the rise, this event brought new meaning to what experiential and community-driven tourism can look like. It was a collective moment of pride, for the women who rode with purpose, for the teams who brought it to life, and for all of us at Maya Hive who had the privilege of shaping its story.”
Throughout the campaign, the company worked closely with the teams at Feel Lanka and Across Ceylon, as well as a diverse network of collaborators and partners who shared the common goal of elevating women and placing Sri Lanka firmly on the map as a destination of empowerment and innovation.
‘Ride Colombo 2025’ was a rare and powerful convergence of passion, creativity, and purpose. It helped reinforce the company’s motives in creating work that goes beyond metrics – work that moves hearts, sparks change, and leaves a legacy.
On 8 March, as the sun rose over Galle Face Green and hundreds of women took to the streets on their bikes, the fruition of the company’s efforts was witnessed. While it was a celebration of Sri Lankan women, the pride echoed far beyond; it was a moment that all could stand behind.
