The election of a new chairman of the Weligama Pradeshiya Sabha was postponed for a second time on Friday due to the lack of a quorum.
Although the session was scheduled to begin at 10.00 am, only 22 members were present out of the total 45, reports said. The Southern Province Commissioner of Local Government adjourned the proceedings as a result.
The election, originally set for 28 November, was also postponed for the same reason.
The post fell vacant following the killing of former chairman Lasantha Wickramasekera of the Samagi Jana Balawegaya.
