No price hike in restaurant and canteen food

There will be no increase in the prices of canteen food despite the hike in liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) prices, confirmed Association of Sri Lanka Canteen Owners Chairman Asela Sampath yesterday (6).

Speaking to The Daily Morning, he stated that though the LPG price hikes affect the industry, the corresponding decreases in the prices of several essential products such as flour, sugar, rice, big onions, potatoes, dhal, and vegetables would compensate for the price increase in LPG. “The prices of several essential goods have fallen in the market recently, which are rice, flour, sugar, vegetables, etc. So, in order to provide the consumers with relief from the above price reductions, we have decided against increasing the prices of food at restaurants and canteens,” he said.

Both Litro Gas Lanka Ltd and Laugfs Gas PLC increased the prices of gas cylinders this week due to a sharp rise in world prices.
