The Rivalries Return: Ceylon Golf League set for Jan. 2027

19 Oct 2026

The Ceylon Golf League (CGL), Sri Lanka’s first franchise golf league, has announced its second season, with Nations Trust Bank (NTB) joining as title partner and more than 150 players already registered.

The tournament will take place from January 8 to 10, 2027, at the Royal Colombo Golf Club (RCGC), with eight city-based franchises competing for the title.

Reigning champions Nuwara Eliya Panthers will defend their crown, while runners-up Trinco Sharks and the other franchises prepare to challenge for the trophy.

The announcement was made at the league’s second-season press conference at Cheers Pub, Cinnamon Grand, following an inaugural edition that attracted 130 players and more than 2,600 attendees.

CGL introduced a franchise-based team competition to Sri Lankan golf, combining a live player auction with city rivalries and three days of competition.

With more than 150 players registered and 35 players released across the eight franchises, the player auction, scheduled for October 23 at The Atrium, Cinnamon Grand, will give teams an opportunity to reshape their squads ahead of the tournament.

“The first season showed us how much appetite there is for franchise golf in Sri Lanka. Players embraced the team competition, the rivalries came alive, and we now have a foundation to build on,” said Shamal Perera, co-founder of the Ceylon Golf League.

“Together with my partners Mahela Jayawardena and Suhayb Sangani, we’re excited to bring CGL back for its second season. Having Nations Trust Bank join us as Title Partner, alongside our other partners, gives us real momentum as we look ahead to the auction and another competitive three days at RCGC.”

Nations Trust Bank will serve as title partner, with Mastercard as event partner, M Power as official financial partner and KIA as official automobile partner. ThePapare will be the official broadcast partner, while Hutch and E FM will serve as official telecommunications and radio partners, respectively.

Cinnamon Grand joins as official hospitality partner, while Alankara Jewellery will serve as official jewellery partner.

The competition will retain its three-day format, beginning with foursomes on January 8, followed by fourball on January 9, and concluding with individual matches in a one-versus-three format on January 10. Teams will compete across seven handicap categories, covering male and female divisions.

With the player auction approaching and the defending champions preparing to return, the league is gearing up for its second season.
