Atmospheric conditions will be favourable for afternoon thunderstorms in most parts of the island over the next few days from yesterday (2). Showers or thunderstorms  will occur at several places in the Western, Central, Sabaragamuwa, Southern, Uva, North-Western (NW) and North-Central Provinces after 2 p.m. Fairly heavy falls above 50 millimetres are likely at some places in the Western, Central and Sabaragamuwa Provinces and in the Kurunegala District (NW). Showers may occur in the Southern Province and in the Ampara and Batticaloa Districts (East) and Monaragala District (Uva) in the morning too. Misty conditions can be expected at some places in the Central, Sabaragamuwa and Uva Provinces during the early hours of the morning.

The general public is requested to take adequate precautions to minimise damages caused by temporary localised strong winds and lightning during thunderstorms.
