An entertaining innings showcased by Kavindu Nirman stroking a star studded knock of 86 runs in 21 balls including nine sixes and seven fours steered Richmond Emerging Legends to beat Mahinda Emerging Legends by 8 wickets in their inaugural T/10 ‘Brotherhood Beyond Boundaries’
Cricket encounter, jointly organised by the Richmond Cricket Club and Mahinda Club/Mahinda Foundation and played at the Bloomfield ground, Reid Avenue recently.
Mahinda Emerging Legends taking first lease of the wicket, openers Hirun Mandila and Rumesh Buddhika, the pair together added 33 runs for the first wicket.
With the fall of the first wicket and followed by four more batters back to the pavilion at (56), (58), (60) and (62), Hirun Mandila stroking 20 in four balls including two fours and two sixes, Rumesh Buddhika stroking 19 runs in seven balls including two fours and double figure contribution from Shehan Hasaranga, Mahinda Emerging Legends were reeling at 5 down for 62 runs on board at one stage.
Solid knocks by middle order batters, Kaushitha Kodituwakku stroking a quick fire 33 runs in 10 balls including four sixes and a four and Damija Induwara stroking a gallant 28 runs in 15 balls including two sixes and a four helped Mahinda Emerging Legends reached the 100 plus mark.
Chamath Dilsara and Malsha Tharupathi capturing 2 wickets each well supported by Hansamana De Silva and Tharinda Niirmal capturing a wicket each shared the bowling honors for Richmond Emerging Legends.
Richmond Emerging Legends in reply, opener Kavindu Nirman showcasing his talents, played an entertaining innings, his 50 runs coming in 12 balls with the score at 2 down at 80 runs on board.
Kavindu Nirman continued with his fine form to see them winning this inaugural cricket encounter in the sixth over stroking a star studded 86 runs not out in 21 balls including nine sixes and seven fours also Tharindu Nirmal scoring 14 runs not out in five balls including two sixes and Chamath Dilsara scoring 22 runs were the other batters who contributed with double figures for the winners.
The principals from both schools, Ruchira Maddumahewa from Richmond College Galle and Janaka Peduruhewa from Mahinda College Galle along with the chief guests, M.V. Gamini, captain of the 1974 Mahinda College Cricket team and Ranjan Dias Jayasinghe, captain of the 1974 Richmond College Cricket team, officials of both schools, invitees of girls schools in Galle were present to witness the awards presented to the top performers at this inaugural encounter.
