The Coconut Cultivation Board (CCB) plans to take over and develop 500,000 acres of uncultivated coconut land in the Kurunegala, Gampaha, Puttalam, and Kuliyapitiya areas.
CCB Chairman Sunimal Jayakody stated that lands owned by absentee or overseas individuals will be leased legally, with ownership returned after a set period.
Accordingly, Rs. 790 million has been allocated for the initiative, which aims to boost the annual coconut harvest to 4,500 million by 2030 and promote vegetable intercropping for export.
