Former Sri Lanka cricketer Sachithra Senanayake has been indicted under the Prevention of Offences Relating to Sports Act on charges linked to match-fixing, the Attorney General’s Department said on Thursday (25).

The case was taken up before the Hambantota High Court, where indictments were formally served to the accused. The court instructed Senanayake to provide fingerprints and enlarged him on two personal bail bonds of Rs. 1 million each.

The charges relate to Lanka Premier League (LPL) matches of the 21–22 November 2020 period.

Senanayake has been charged with attempting to influence Colombo Kings player Tharindu Rathnayake by persuading him not to divulge an alleged offer to the International Cricket Council’s Anti-Corruption Unit, while also providing guidance and encouragement to support the attempt.

Senanayake, 40, represented Sri Lanka mostly in ODIs and T20Is from 2012 to 2016, claiming a total of 78 wickets in both formats.
