The Sri Lanka Air Force’s Regiment Special Force (RSF) last week conducted training exercises to train local and foreign armed force personnel on carrying out search and rescue missions over land and sea, it is learnt.
Search and rescue of ejected or distressed pilots, aircrew, and civilians during air crash/any type of manmade circumstances were also rehearsed at the RSF Training School (RSFTS) at SLAF Station Morawewa.
The RSFTS conducted No. 10 Heli-borne Operation training module, which comprised a tower-training exercise for Abseiling, Rappelling, Fast Rope, Heli Marshaling, and Special Rescue Training methods to make a feasible platform to conduct an aircraft-training exercise in the same context. The aircraft-training exercise phase included Rapid Deployment, Rappelling, STABO, Rope Rescue, Insertion and Extraction, and CASEVAC Operation using litter kit exercise, which was conducted at SLAF Base Hingurakgoda, the Air Force said. A total of 30 trainees, including two Zambian Air Force personnel, including an officer and a senior non-commissioned officer, four Police STF personnel, three SL Army Commandos, three SL Army Special Forces personnel, two SL Army Air Mobile Brigade personnel, eight SL Navy Special Boat Squadron personnel, and eight RSF personnel successfully completed the course.
