Police have launched a comprehensive security and traffic operation as thousands prepare to welcome 2026 at Galle Face Green and across the capital.
With a major influx of visitors expected from across the country, 1,200 police officers are being deployed to ensure public safety and manage the flow of people in central hubs like Fort, Pettah, and Cinnamon Gardens.
To keep the city moving, police have designated parking for nearly 6,000 vehicles.
Free spots are available at Marine Drive and Independence Avenue, while paid lots are open at the Old Manning Market and Lake House.
Motorists are strictly warned that parking on sidewalks or obstructing main roads is prohibited, with legal action promised for violators.
Authorities are encouraging the public to arrive early and utilize the designated parking zones to enjoy a safe and smooth start to the New Year.
