Prime Minister(PM) Harini Amarasuriya has assured full government support to rebuild the University of Peradeniya after recent floods caused extensive damage. 

Visiting the campus, she met student representatives and department heads, inspecting impacts on academic buildings, student facilities and key infrastructure, with preliminary losses estimated at over Rs. 6 billion.

The floods disrupted faculties including Management, Agriculture, and Veterinary Medicine, as well as the IT Centre, gymnasium and playgrounds. 

The Prime Minister directed urgent repairs, restoration of water and electricity, and implementation of long-term mitigation measures such as riverbank protection, improved drainage, and enhanced early warning systems.
