The deep depression over the southwest Bay of Bengal was located about 100 km north-northeast of Trincomalee early this morning and is moving northwestwards.

It is expected to weaken into a depression and cross the coast between Trincomalee and Jaffna around noon.

Heavy rain exceeding 100 mm is likely in the Northern Province, with strong to very strong winds reaching up to 70 km/h.

The public is advised to take precautions against strong winds and lightning.
