The Catholic Church has denied claims that Cardinal Malcolm Ranjith requested the appointments of Public Security Ministry Secretary Ravi Seneviratne and CID Director Shani Abeysekara.

Speaking at a media briefing, Archdiocese of Colombo spokesperson Rev. Fr. Cyril Gamini Fernando stated that neither the Cardinal nor the Church had made such a request.

He also urged the public not to be misled by false and defamatory information circulating on social media regarding the ongoing Easter Sunday attacks investigations.
