The Cabinet has approved the deployment of 10 air-conditioned low-floor buses with facilities for people with special needs as a pilot project under the ‘Clean Sri Lanka’ initiative.

Procurement for the buses has been completed, with arrival scheduled by 15 March 2026. 

Due to capacity limitations of the Sri Lanka Transport Board, the buses will be operated by Lanka Metro Transit (Private) Company as a preliminary step toward modernizing Colombo’s urban bus transport system, paving the way for the future deployment of 100 advanced technology buses.
