The Department of Meteorology issued an ‘Amber’ advisory for severe lightning in several provinces today (02).

The warning is in effect until 11.30 p.m. covering Northern, North-Central, Central, Sabaragamuwa, Eastern and Uva provinces.

Thundershowers with severe lightning are likely after 1.00 p.m., with temporary strong winds.

The public is advised to take precautions to minimise damage from lightning.
