Following the passage of the gazetted Inland Revenue (Amendment) Bill, a Taxpayer Identification Number (TIN) certificate will become mandatory for several services from April.

Accordingly, a TIN certificate must be submitted when opening a bank account, obtaining approval for a building plan, registering a motor vehicle and renewing a driving licence, registering land or land ownership, registering a business, transferring shares of a company incorporated in Sri Lanka, and applying for credit cards.
