The government has announced the Gambling Regulatory Authority Act, No. 17 of 2015, will be implemented from one December 2025.

President Anura Kumara Dissanayake has reportedly issued the necessary Gazette notification for the new legislation to take effect. 

The Act, which establishes the Gambling Regulatory Authority, was certified by Speaker Dr. Jagath Wickramaratne on three September.

The new law provides for the regulation and control of all types of gaming activities, with the exception of lotteries and social gaming.
