A joint operation conducted by the Army Intelligence unit and Nelliady-based Police Special Task Force has resulted in the seizure of a stock of almost 200 kg of Kerala cannabis on the Polikandy beach in Valvettithurai. The estimated value of the seized cannabis is about Rs. 40 million.

The joint operation had been conducted in the early morning of 15 June based on a tip-off received by the Jaffna Army Intelligence unit. The smuggled stock of cannabis had been packaged in 98 parcels. In addition to the cannabis, a boat has also been seized.
