Amnesty International's Secretary General, Agnès Callamard, is set to embark on her inaugural regional tour of South Asia, with a stop planned in Sri Lanka, on 18 May. During her visit, Callamard, renowned for her advocacy in human rights, freedom of expression, and anti-racism, will take part in a memorial event commemorating the victims of Sri Lanka's civil war in Mullivaikkal organized by the war-affected Tamil community.
Following this, Callamard will host a Town Hall event in Kathmandu, Nepal, on 24 May, engaging with civil society, youth representatives, and the media.
Appointed as Amnesty International's Secretary General in 2021 and has a background as a former UN Special Rapporteur on extrajudicial, summary, or arbitrary executions.
