It has been decided to restrict the movement of all vehicles on the Haliela-Uduwara main road following a landslide which occurred yesterday (10).
The discussion was reached at a discussion chaired by the Badulla District Co-ordination Committee Chairman, Parliamentarian Major Sudarshana Denipitiya and Badulla District Secretary Panduka Sri Prabhath Abeywardena.
Accordingly, the Bandarawela road via Ettampitiya in Maligatenna can be used as an alternative route (an additional distance of three kilometres has to be driven).
It has also been decided to operate all the long-distance buses from today (11) to reach Bandarawela and Badulla via this alternative route. The movement of light vehicles will be allowed from Bandarawela. The discussion was attended by the Deputy Inspector General of Police, Badulla; the Additional District Secretary; the Divisional Secretary, Haliela; the Deputy Director of the Disaster Management Centre in Badulla; and the officials of the Road Development Authority, the National Water Supply and Drainage Board, and the National Building Research Organisation.
