Police have issued an official clarification addressing false information circulating on social media regarding age limits for police recruitment.

The Police Media Division confirmed that the details are governed by Gazette Notification No. 2482, issued on 27 March 2026, which calls for applications for the positions of Police Constables, Woman Police Constables, and Police Drivers in the Sri Lanka Police and the Special Task Force.

According to the Gazette, applicants must submit their applications online by the deadline of 8 May , 2026.

The specified age requirements are as follows: for Trainee Police Constable and Woman Police Constable, applicants should be between 18 and 24 years old. For Trainee Police Constable Driver, the age range is 18 to 28 years.

Police emphasised that claims suggesting the age limit has been increased to 28 years for all positions are false.

Authorities have identified individuals responsible for spreading this misinformation, and investigations are ongoing.

The Police urged the public to disregard such false claims and to rely solely on official Gazette notifications. Applicants are also advised to only apply if they meet the specified eligibility criteria and to attend interviews accordingly.
