Foreign media reported the suspect was arrested on 5 September at an international airport in Banten, Indonesia. The birds had reportedly been packed into 15 small boxes and concealed inside a suitcase in an attempt to take them out of the country. Several of the bird species found in his possession are protected under Indonesian laws, according to reports.

The Indonesian quarantine office and the country's natural resources agency have launched further investigations into the incident.
