Prime Minister seeks religious leaders’ support for education reforms

Prime Minister (PM)Harini Amarasuriya has met separately with Buddhist and Catholic leaders to discuss upcoming education reforms.


Talks with the Samastha Lanka Shasanarakshaka Balamandalaya focused on Dhamma school challenges, including halting tuition on Sundays and Poya days, addressing teacher shortages, and adding university admission marks for Dharmacharya exam passers.


In a meeting with Cardinal Malcolm Ranjith and Catholic bishops, the PM outlined reforms from 2026 to instill moral values and integrate vocational training in fields like agriculture, fisheries, engineering, and automobile repair within schools.
