Political parties and civil society groups have reached broad agreement on conducting the long-delayed Provincial Council election under the electoral system that existed prior to the 2017 amendment.

The agreement was reached during a discussion organised by PAFFREL in Colombo involving political party representatives and election monitoring organisations.

Out of 42 participating groups, all except one signed a joint statement to be submitted to the government and the Parliamentary Select Committee reviewing the electoral system.
