The Irrigation Department stated that there is currently no imminent flood threat in Sri Lanka’s major rivers, despite rising water levels following heavy rainfall.

Around 125 mm of rain was recorded near Baddegama, while Ratnapura received around 75 mm and areas near Kesbewa recorded nearly 100 mm.

Water levels in the Gin, Nilwala and Kalu rivers and Attanagalu Oya remain elevated but have not reached flood levels.

The Department warned that further heavy rainfall could increase the flood risk, with localised flooding possible in low-lying areas.
