Fuel restrictions on MPs, officials lifted

08 Jul 2026

The Government removed the fuel restrictions previously imposed on Ministers, Parliamentarians and other public officials as part of measures to curb public expenditure during the energy crisis.

According to reports, the Secretary to the Finance Ministry has issued a circular informing all Secretaries of Ministries, Provincial Chief Secretaries, Heads of Commissions, Government Departments, District Secretariats, State Corporations and statutory Boards of the decision.

The restrictions were introduced following the conflict in the Middle East, with the Government issuing a circular on 2 April directing that fuel allowances for Ministers, Deputy Ministers, MPs and public officials be calculated based on fuel prices that prevailed on 1 March as a cost-management measure.

However, the new circular revokes the previous directive. Accordingly, with effect from 1 July, fuel will be issued to Ministers, MPs and other public officials based on prevailing market fuel prices.
