To facilitate travel during the Sinhala and Tamil New Year celebrations, the Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB) and other transport agencies have announced special services for passengers heading to and returning from their hometowns.
The SLTB will operate a special bus service starting 9 April 2026, deploying approximately 250 additional buses daily on long-distance routes. Depending on passenger demand, more buses will be added.
These services will run from 9 April to 13 April, with an additional service from April 17 to 21 April to help passengers return to Colombo.
Similarly, the National Transport Commission (NTC) plans to run extra bus services from 9 April, with additional buses also deployed based on demand.
Additionally, Sri Lanka Railways will operate special train services from 10 April, including trains on the Coastal Line, Northern Line, and Main Line, alongside regular schedules, to accommodate the surge in travelers during the holiday period.
