Around 10 million Sri Lankans aged 18 and above have registered for Taxpayer Identification Numbers (TINs), while about 7 million are still unregistered, Inland Revenue Department (IRD) Deputy Commissioner General B.K.S. Shantha announced.
He noted that obtaining a TIN became mandatory under a May 2023 gazette and urged citizens to register through the IRD’s online system.
TINs will soon be required for activities such as bank deposits, vehicle registrations, land transactions, and business activities.
