Nationwide census of dogs to be conducted

24 May 2024

The Rabies control program of the Ministry of Health (MoH) has announced plans to conduct a census of dogs across the country in the upcoming months of June and July.

This census, conducted in collaboration with the World Health Organization (WHO), aims to gather comprehensive data on the dog population.

The related basic project proposal has been prepared and finalised for implementation.

With an estimated 300,000 dogs in the country, most of which are domesticated, the program highlights the importance of vaccination and sterilization to control the dog population.

It is worth noting that the killing of dogs is prohibited by law, and population control measures are solely through vaccination and neutering.
