The Irrigation Department has opened two sluice gates of the Deduru Oya Reservoir due to continuous heavy rainfall, releasing 1,400 cubic feet of water per second.
Additionally, six sluice gates of the Polgolla Reservoir were opened yesterday (18) morning, releasing 9,000 cubic feet of water per second into the Victoria Reservoir.
Residents living downstream of the Polgolla Mahaweli Dam have been urged to remain cautious as rising water levels may pose safety risks.
