Sri Lanka is targeting Rs 100 billion in revenue from its cinnamon industry by the end of this year, following earnings of $ 185 million, equivalent to approximately Rs 60 billion, recorded as of 30 August, according to the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, Land and Irrigation, in a statement recently published by the Department of Government Information (DGI).

The Ministry said Rs 365 million has been allocated to the Department of Cinnamon Development to support the industry’s expansion and help achieve the year-end revenue target, according to DGI.

The funding will be directed towards establishing 2,500 acres of new cinnamon cultivation in non-traditional growing areas and developing industries to manufacture value-added cinnamon products, DGI stated.

The allocation will also support obtaining internationally recognised quality certifications for the industry and promoting entrepreneurship within the sector to create further opportunities, DGI stated.

Sri Lanka’s cinnamon industry recorded growth in production and export earnings in 2025, with production rising by 4.4% to 26,000 metric tonnes from 24,900 metric tonnes in 2024. Export earnings increased by 14.8% to Rs 78.024 billion in 2025 from Rs 67.953 billion in 2024, according to Central Bank of Sri Lanka statistics.
