Prime Minister (PM) Harini Amarasuriya has called for immediate steps to address the critical shortage of more than 42,000 teachers in Sri Lankan schools by rapidly implementing digital learning systems.
During a meeting with the Cabinet-appointed Task Force on Digital Education Transformation (Grades 6–13), the Prime Minister stressed the importance of bridging learning gaps using existing resources and technology.
She emphasised that the initiative must ensure equal access to digital education, particularly for students from marginalized communities and those with disabilities.
Amarasuriya stated that a strong, multi-sectoral approach is crucial to driving the education sector's digital transformation.
