Govt imposes 50% surcharge on imported vehicles for three months

The Ministry of Finance (MOF) has imposed a 50% surcharge on Customs Import Duty for selected imported vehicles.


The measure takes effect from today (16) and will remain in force for three months.


The surcharge applies to both general and preferential import duty categories.


It covers motor cars, buses, ambulances, prison vans, hearses, motorhomes and other specified vehicles.


The Ministry said the surcharge will not apply to Letters of Credit opened on or before 15 May.
