Sajith can’t rule the country: Fonseka

  • Claims that no one had witnessed anybody obtaining 50% of the total number of votes

Even if the Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa wins the Presidential Election, he does not have the ability to rule the country, said MP Sarath Fonseka at Yakkala, attending a peaceful demonstration on 26 April.

Speaking further, MP Fonseka said that none had witnessed anybody obtaining 50% of the total number of votes. He added: “I expect to edify the people of my future programme in about a week through all media holding a massive media extravaganza.   I think that a candidate obtaining about 35 lakhs (3.5 million) of votes will definitely be in the lead.  Even now, there are about 70 lakhs (7 million) of floating votes in this country.  Hence, we can envision that the results of the coming Presidential Election will follow a new methodology.”

Answering a question from a journalist regarding SJB/Opposition leader Sajith Premadasa, Fonseka said: “For the past six months and at present he seems to be scared.  That’s how he spoke and acted.  I observe that, the way things are going at present, he will continue to be scared even long after the election.”

Replying to another query from a journalist whether the SJB has split into two factions, Fonseka said: “We will be able to see that once the election results are announced.  A large number of people are disappointed.  There are some among them who have backbones to speak openly.  Some don’t have strong backbones.  Those are problems created by the cheap political culture of this country.”

In response to another journalist who asked whether Sajith Premadasa can become President as there are posters proclaiming him to be the winning President, Fonseka said,: “Yes, he won a long time ago.  The question I have is not whether he can or cannot win but whether he could steer the country.  I don’t believe that he can provide leadership to this country.  They all have their own agendas.  Going to the Parliament is the first priority of all of them.  SJB has about 25, 26 or 27 lakhs of votes.   There are some people there who hang on to the SJB like leeches as long as those votes are there.  Not a single politician in this country is prepared to sacrifice his neck on behalf of me.”
