The Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC/CEYPETCO) announced a revision of fuel prices, effective from Monday (20) midnight, with the Lanka Indian Oil Corporation (LIOC) and Sinopec Energy Lanka following suit by also increasing prices.
Accordingly, the price of Petrol 92 Octane has been increased by Rs. 12 to Rs. 305 per litre, while the price of Kerosene has been increased by Rs. 7 to Rs. 185 per litre. The price of Auto Diesel has also been increased by Rs. 15, bringing it to Rs. 289 per litre. However, the prices of Petrol 95 Octane (Rs. 341 per litre) and Super Diesel (Rs. 325 per litre) remain unchanged, according to the CEYPETCO.
Meanwhile, LIOC and Sinopec Energy Lanka have, effective from yesterday (1), also revised retail fuel prices to match CEYPETCO prices, following the decision by the CPC to revise fuel prices.
Following the announcement pertaining to the fuel price revision on Monday evening, long queues were visible at filling stations across Colombo.
Meanwhile, a decision regarding the revision of bus fares, in line with Monday’s fuel price adjustment, will be made within the next two days, the National Transport Commission (NTC) has announced. NTC Director General Naomi Jayawardena stated that the NTC is scheduled to convene and make a final decision on the matter.
Although the annual bus fare revision was initially set to be implemented from yesterday, Jayawardena noted that it will not be enforced due to the revision in fuel prices.
