The Netherlands has approved a EUR 730,000 grant to support Sri Lanka's ongoing Rural Bridges Project, according to the Ministry of Finance.
This additional funding will help cover the project's remaining costs.
The project, which aims to construct 162 bridges to enhance connectivity in rural areas, is nearing completion with 151 bridges already finished.
The entire project is expected to be finalized by February 2026.
The latest grant brings the total grant assistance from the Netherlands to over EUR 18.9 million, representing about 37% of the total project cost.
This increased grant support has helped to ease Sri Lanka's debt burden by enabling the partial cancellation of an undisbursed loan.
