The Criminal Investigation Department has warned of an increase in complaints involving individuals posing as police officers to defraud the public.

Assistant Superintendent of Police W. P. Jayanethsiri stated that scammers often claim an investigation is underway and demand money to reduce punishment or provide relief.

He revealed that 10,015 cybercrime complaints were recorded last year, including 3,100 related to cyber scams, urging the public to remain vigilant.
