Sajith Premadasa, Leader of the Opposition, has called for closer ties with India and the expansion of the Free Trade Agreement (FTA), stating that the bilateral relationship must be “enhanced and built upon”.
Speaking to Indian media during his visit, he expressed gratitude for India's $4.2 billion support during Sri Lanka’s economic crisis.
Premadasa stressed that any enhanced FTA must be based on "fundamentally sound principles" and result in mutual, quantifiable benefits for both nations.
He also reiterated his party’s commitment to implementing the 13th Amendment to the Constitution.
