The Department of Meteorology has forecast heavy rainfall of around 100–150 mm in some areas of the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, Uva and Southern provinces today (13).

A low-pressure area may form over the south-eastern Bay of Bengal today, bringing increased rainfall across Sri Lanka and surrounding sea areas over the next few days.

Rainfall exceeding 75 mm is also possible in other parts of the island. The public, naval and fishing communities have been urged to follow weather updates and take precautions against lightning and localised strong winds.
