Former Inspector General of Police (IGP) Deshabandu Tennakoon has been remanded until 27 August in connection with the investigation into the 9 May, 2022, attack on the "Gota Go Gama" protest site.

Tennakoon, who served as Deputy Inspector General (DIG) for the Western Province at the time of the incident, was arrested by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and subsequently named as a suspect.

Fort Magistrate Nilupuli Lankapura ordered the CID to examine all police witnesses within a week and submit a summary of evidence at the next hearing.
